Step 4 - Glazing Glazing layers are carried
out with transparent colors and a medium. This stage is not completed in one session because as each color layer dries, another
color layer can be applied. This layering technique is how the illuminous quality of the Old Masters is achieved. Laying color
creates subtle changes that help to achieve a realistic surface quality. Shadow areas are strengthened, highlights are lightened,
and edges are softened or made crisp depending on the desired effect. Problems to be addressed at this stage include shadow
and light areas, form and volume, luminousity and realism.
